Spent part of the afternoon listening to BBC Radio Kent, whilst updating some web sites. Some interesting music, particularly a show with some history about Buddy Holly, and Bobby Vee, and also Western Swing Music. In 1945, the Japanese thought they could take advantage of the then newly discovred jet stream. They made 9,300 balloons, attached explosives to them and let nature take them eastwards where some made it as far as the Pacific coast of the United States. It was George Marshall’s design. Three twelve-man squads, lead by NCO’s, mad up a platoon. Americans had command of over half of the world’s manufacturing capacity, and also generated over half of the entire planet’s electricity. The United States had over two-thirds of the gold stocks in the world, and half of all its monetary reserves. 1. Soppy old nostalgic verse like that in the previous posting, some of which is a little before my time, but much of it is not, and alas perhaps, I find myself agreeing with much of it too. |
