So, it’s the evening of March 21st. First entry since the 16th. Not good enough for a blog is it? Well over the weekend we took the plunge and bought another computer. I should have known better. I thought I would be able to get it home, install my favorite software (and get rid of the crap like Internet Explorer), and be up and running again that evening.

It’s taken almost three days.

Anyway I’m back on a newer faster machine. I need to add some more ram, and a video card ( I hate this integral stuff that steal system RAM, and CPU processing power), but it’s not a bad machine for the price, and I couldn’t have built it cheaper, which I what I normally do.

I didn’t like the concept of getting software on CD with it. The usualy Microsoft cop-out goes with that of course, they give no support for their lame offerings, you have to go back to the manufacturer for that. It never ceases to amaze me, that with almost all the shareware I’ve purchased over the past twenty years, much of it written by a small start-up or a solo writer in their dorm between studies, you usually get excellent and prompt useful support, and yet this giant greed-driven monolith can’t be bothered, and pass the buck. On reflection, Microsoft probably don’t understand how the software works anyway, either because they’ve simply bought it elsewhere and tagged their name to it, or because it was written over the course of five years, by 500 different people who have never spoken to each other.
