Ballast Point IPA is for hopheads. It’s a malty brew too, with four malts to balance the high IBU (around 55).Brewed by the Ballast Point Brewing Company in San Diego, California.
As a hophead myself, and comparing it to the likes of Stone IPA, or Dogfish Head 90 minute, I’d have to put it in third place, but that’s only by a whisker. I really do enjoy this beer, but it doesn’t have that ‘something’ that the others have.
I can’t help but compare the aroma to a Stone IPA, and there’s a definite lack of it with the Ballast Point. It does make for a pleasant drink though, and I’d certainly give it a try.
It might be just your cup of tea (figuratively speaking of course).
Still on a scale of ten, I’d give it at least 7.5.

Ian, After I finally got my first Smartphone, I downloaded a Droid apt app called Brewster. I enter the beer I’m having and it shows additional details such as where it’s brewed, type and ABV.
Also it has a “notes” section where I can add comments to those already made.
Naturally it uses GSP to locate on a map where I am having that beer.
I find I would have to go back to Dublin to show I was drinking a Guinness there. That might happen.
Apologies for being rather tardy on following up on my blog comments, but I’m going to check out that Brewster app myself. Thanks for the tip!
