Greetings!

We hope everyone is in good spirits at the beginning of another wonderful Holiday Season! We have some great things happening this week!

Bayerischer Bahnhof Brettanomyces Lambicus “Rare Beer Tuesday” (12/19) Yes, that is a very long, strange name – we agree. The cool part is that this beer is an absolute store favorite! This is for all you sour beer fans out there! Bayerischer Bahnhof Brettanomyces Lambicus is a 3% ABV Berliner Weisse that is very sour, deliciously complex and immensely refreshing. If you’re not familiar with Berliner Weisse, please click here for the fascinating history and explanation of the style. We’ve had bottles on and off for the last year or so, but this is the first time we’ve been able to get a keg, so get on down here tomorrow at 5pm for a growler fill!

We’ll also be tapping some rare and delicious holiday-oriented kegs for growler fills throughout the week that are sure to please, so keep an eye on facebook and Twitter for real time updates and remember you can always see what’s live on our growler station by visiting our website and clicking the “News/Growlers” tab!

Old Crafty Hen

Dropped into the local Morrison’s on the way home, and picked up a few bottles.

One of them is this delicious offering from the Morland Brewery.

Old Crafty Hen is a malty amber ale, and is matured in vintage oak vats.

It has a smooth raisin finish.

It’s a decent strength too, which balances that maltiness with an abv of 6.5%.

Morrison’s are selling a 500ml bottle (just under a pint), at just £1.89 each.

Perhaps it’s a bit too strong for some to have as a session beer, and it’s not really a summer ale; more suited to a winter’s evening in my view with all that malt, but I’d certainly be up for sinking a few when I’ve got the time!

Hopheads Delight

On Sunday afternoon we dropped into The Goat in Fulwell, where they have an excellent selection of beer from around the world.

I do miss the American style IPAs, but Brewdog Hardcore IPA made up for it.

It is actually brewed in Fraserburgh, Scotland.

A gorgeous happy ale, with an abv of 9.2%

Ballast Point IPA

Ballast Point IPA is for hopheads. It’s a malty brew too, with four malts to balance the high IBU (around 55).Brewed by the Ballast Point Brewing Company in San Diego, California.

As a hophead myself, and comparing it to the likes of Stone IPA, or Dogfish Head 90 minute, I’d have to put it in third place, but that’s only by a whisker. I really do enjoy this beer, but it doesn’t have that ‘something’ that the others have.

I can’t help but compare the aroma to a Stone IPA, and there’s a definite lack of it with the Ballast Point. It does make for a pleasant drink though, and I’d certainly give it a try.

It might be just your cup of tea (figuratively speaking of course).

Still on a scale of ten, I’d give it at least 7.5.

A Classic English Ale from Yorkshire.

This has always been a favorite of mine.

I don’t drink it a lot, because it’s not often I seem to find it on tap in a pub (at least not in the south). Not impossible to find, but certainly not an ale you find in every pub.

The bottled version is still a decent brew though.

I bought two of these in the local Tesco Express for £1.41 per 500ml bottle.

I always feel cheated out of the remaining 68ml too.

Still, my plan to drink one this evening, and one tomorrow, has gone out of the window, as now I’ve chugged the first one, I’ll have to start on the second one very soon.

5.6%abv.

A Very Sour Rare Beer Tuesday (12/14)
Ever since we ran Petrus Aged Pale draft for growler fills, people have been begging for us to put it on again. The draft version of this beer was a one time, commemorative release and we wanted to save the last keg for a while. With the Christmas season in full swing, we thought this was the right time to put a smile on all the sour-heads faces so at 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday) we’ll be offering growlers of this most sour gem! The draft of this is markedly more sour than its original, bottled counter-part so if you are a fan of barrel aged sour/wild ales you do not want to miss this one! At 7.3% ABV and barrel aged for over 20 months, the flavor and aroma of this golden blonde ale are incomparable.BACCO Italian Beer Dinner (12/16)
Please join us for our final beer dinner event of 2010. We are wrapping the year up
