We just got this months electricity bill. Now, I'm never one to get excited about paying bills, particularly the ones that stay with you until your dying day - i.e taxes, power, water,regime fees and so on. At least, hopefully, you eventually make the final car or mortgage payment, and while they usually get a little less in real terms as the years go by, that first bunch is always guaranteed to steadily increase, and often way more than the rate of inflation. More time wasted with sucky Windows. I have a client who wants her computer restored back to life. The XP OS has gotten so corrupted the only sensible course of action is to re-install it. However, as Microsoft have this real stupid OEM system, where only a copy of Windows for a particular brand will work on any machine (even when you've got the product key sticker on the system box, you can't even use a CD from another machine. Now, I make no secret that I'm not a Microsoft fan. Not any kind of anti-corporate stance particularly, just that by and large I think their software sucks. I had to smile a few days ago though. I know it's a beta version, but I installed a copy of IE8 on a winbox here. I NEVER use IE out of choice, but you have to have a copy of IE on a Windows machine, so I thought OK, I'll see if it's any better at W3C compliancy than the previous dismal attempts at such. Broadcasters still have not been able to reach agreement with SoundExchange over an acceptable performance royalty rate for Internet radio. Fortunately, our supporters in Congress are getting frustrated by the slow pace of negotiations and are finally taking action. This Thursday, May 15th, Senator Sam Brownback will be offering an amendment to include the Internet Radio Equality Act (IREA) provisions into legislation being considered by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Speed vs time. Why is it a lack of time always seems to mean that everything apparently slows down? When you're late for an appointment, why does the journey seem to take longer? Why does the Internet go slower? It probably doesn't but it seems to. Today I am trying to get 101 things done online, so everything seems to be at a crawl.
