Di: The bread machine we have here was only $30 in K-Mart, and it does a full 2LB loaf. Fresh bread is one of the few things that is more expensive here than in the UK (about twice the price). I'm talking about 'real' bread from a bakers here, not the sliced supermarket stuff! Anyway, with a 1LB loaf costing anything up to about $3.30, and a bag of bread flour which makes quite a few loaves for $2.64, it's a no-brainer really.

Joan: Yes it was delicious. In fact, when I make it, I have to agree with Di's comments that one has to be real careful about eating it! I have to limit myself, or I could, with some good sharp vermont cheese, quite easily consume half a loaf, along with some good beer, and probably add a few pounds a WEEK to my already oversized gut.

Nate's parents gave us a bread machine for x-mas, so I can attest to the excellence of hot bread waft. We had a different type of bread every week throughout the first part of the year, but had to cut back due to the accompanying weight gain. :(
