Rare Beer Tuesday (9/7)
We are using this week’s “Rare Beer Tuesday” time-slot to give everyone advanced notice of our tapping of Ballast Point Sculpin IPA for growler fills starting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5pm! In the opinions of some, this is the greatest and most highly sought-after IPA that we get, and we rarely get enough of it to be able to announce its arrival, so here it is! Don’t miss out this time!
Rare Bomber Thursday (9/9)
For “Rare Bomber Thursday” this week, we are very proud to announce the South Carolina debut of Hopfenstark Brewery, brought to you exclusively by The Charleston Beer Exchange! Hopfenstark hails from Quebec, Canada. All Hopfenstark beers brought into the USA are draft-only, and are unbelievably uncommon to find on-tap anywhere! This week’s beer will be their amazingly rare “PostColonial IPA“, which is a recreation of/homage to the beer that spawned the style “India Pale Ale”! It comes in at 6.5% ABV and is reddish/orange in color with a subtle, floral hop aroma and well-balanced hop/malt flavor profile. This will be available for sale in pre-filled 22oz bomber-style “growlers”starting Thursday, 9/9 at 5pm. Click HERE for a reminder of how Rare Bomber Thursday works.

It’s the beginning of tailgating season, there’s incredible produce coming in from our local farms, and the cooler temperatures make grilling enjoyable again. It all kicks into gear this weekend, and we’ve got the butcher counter stocked with all your needs for Labor Day grilling and the start of football season! We’ve also re-stocked the shelves with favorite products like Harvest Song all-natural preserves, Rick’s Picks artisanal pickled vegetables and Salumeria Biellese salamis.
We hope you will join us in October for our very special 5-year anniversary celebration. We’re pulling out all the stops for this annual event, scheduled for Saturday, October 16. Mark your calendars and look for further details coming soon to your inbox. We hope to see you there!

BEER VS. WINE:
A UNIQUE TWIST AT THIS MONTH’S CRAFT BEER DINNER
|
Wine and beer enthusiasts delight: You’re all in for a special treat this month at our craft beer dinner! Our menu will feature the bounty of the season’s local produce, and each course will be paired with both a craft beer AND wine.
Wine has long been considered the connoisseur’s beverage of choice for pairing with fine food. However, with the increased appreciation and quality of today’s craft beers, savvier consumers are starting to realize that fine beers often pair just as well with many foods.
We’re excited to offer Charleston’s first comparative tasting of beer and wine at this four-course dinner. Come judge which pairing you think stands up the best to each course.
When: Thurs., Sept. 23 | 7:30 pm
Cost: $48 per person
RSVP: 577-0094

MAL’S MONTHLY WINE PICKS
|
2009 Apaltagua Chardonnay Reserva, Chile $12
We featured the Pinot Noir from this winery last month and it blew us away. The Chardonnay is a fruit forward style with nice acidity that will please those interested in a food-friendly wine. As wine critic Steve Tanzer says, “A refreshingly brisk, tart style of chardonnay, finishing with notes of ginger and honeysuckle.” Pair with any of Chef Eva’s salads or Ted’s all-natural chicken from upstate SC.
2009 Ameztois Rubentis Txakolina Rose, Spain $21
Charleston’s Party Wine is here and Ted’s has the last of the 2009 vintage in Charleston! This dry Spanish rose is low in alcohol and incredibly refreshing. All the freshness of traditional white txakoli, but with a slight taste of strawberries and red candied fruit due to the prominence of the red Hondaribbi Beltza grape in the blend. Great for a warm, late-summer evening. Traditional glass carafes called “Porrons” are available for purchase with advance notice.
|
2008 Les Hexagonales Gamay, France $13
Some will recognize Gamay as the grape used to make the light wine Beaujolais. It can also be decidedly more complex when it hails from the Touraine appellation in the Loire valley. Low alcohol, light to medium body, juicy and earthy. It’s perfect on its own at the beginning of the evening, or pair with Ted’s fresh Scottish Salmon for the perfect “end of summer” meal.
We offer deals on bulk wine purchases! 10% off 6 bottles;
15% off any case | OK to mix and match
