AROUND THE BARREL

Foris Pinot Gris
Rogue Valley, Oregon
90pts Wine Enthusiast
$16
Foris has Pinot Gris dialed in, showcasing the subtle, delicate flavors perhaps closer to Italian Pinot Grigio than other big, fruity domestic bottlings. The winery location – in the cool Illinois Valley of southwest Oregon ~ puts an Alpine twist on the flavors – lemon peel, pineapple, lime, and just a touch of honey.
Kings Ridge Pinot Noir
Oregon
90pts Wine & Spirits
$18
Well built, with scents of mocha and black cherry, there's an earthiness to the flavors ~ sort of a redwood bark meets plum ~which gives the wine a savory kick. Drink with something substantial, like grilled salmon and wild mushrooms.

Today, I thought I’d put my foot in it, and tell you the story of how a friend of mine tried to liven up his mundane solitary life a little. This little tale might brighten up your day too, and bring a smile to your face. Read on…
A single friend of decided life would be more fun if he had a pet.
So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet.
After some discussion,he finally bought a talking centipede, (100-legged bug), which came in a little white box to use for his house.
He took the box back home, found a good spot for the box, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to the pub with him.
So he asked the centipede in the box, “Would you like to go to the pub with me today? We will have a good time.”
But there was no answer from his new pet.
This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked again, “How about going to the pub with me and tasting some beer?”
But again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet. So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation.
The guy decided to invite the centipede one last time.
This time he put his face up against the centipede’s house and shouted, “Hey, in there! Would you like to go to the pub with me and learn about craft beer?”
….
This time, a little voice came out of the box, “I heard you the first f***** time! I’m putting my shoes on!”

Sierra Nevada 30th/CBX 2nd Anniversary Weekend
To celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of The Charleston Beer Exchange and the 30th Anniversary of Sierra Nevada (which are on the same day!) we are throwing an all out Sierra Nevada celebratory weekend at CBX! To start, we’ll be kicking things off tomorrow morning (Saturday 11/13) at opening with Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale and Pale Ale on the growler station for only $7.99 per fill and every fill will come with a Sierra Nevada pint glass – absolutely free! Of course we can only offer this while supplies last but we’ve got a good amount to kick things off. We’ll also have Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest Wet Hop Ale on the growler station and the free glass offer still applies! We’ll have plenty of Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary coasters to giveaway too! We’ll keep this going as long as the beer lasts. Come early to ensure you don’t miss out.
On Monday (November 15th) it will be the actual dual anniversary day and for this special day we’ll be tapping all four of the special Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary release beers on the growler station simultaneously! This will be an amazing opportunity to pick up growlers of these very limited releases including “Fritz & Ken’s Ale” Imperial Stout, “Charlie, Fred & Ken’s Bock” Imperial Helles Bock, “Jack & Ken’s Ale” Black Barleywine, and the highly anticipated, just released “Our Brewers Reserve” Grand Cru Ale. Each one of these beers commemorates some of the founding fathers of the American craft beer renaissance and each one scores ratings nearing the perfect 100 point mark. Anybody that buys all four of the special anniversary growlers on Monday will receive an extra special, beautiful Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary commemorative snifter style glass. These are super limited!
Dogfish Head Double Randall Tuesday (11/16)
If we’ve still got your attention, we’ll tip you off to a special event we are hosting during our “Rare Beer Tuesday” time slot next week! Claus Hagelman of Dogfish Head will be joining us from 4:30pm to 6pm to launch/debut our new “Dogfish Head Randall 3.0″ program and we’ll be doing two different Dogfish Head beers through two Randalls with some very crazy special treatments! Stay tuned to Monday’s announcements for the specifics but prepare for some really wild stuff! If you’re not sure what we’re talking and/or saying “What’s a Randall?” check this link out: Dogfish Head Ranall The Enamel Animal. Lots more to come on this!
Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for lots more juicy details and updates about all things CBX and maybe even some things that aren’t…
Cheers,
