Today out goes the other defunct router. This is the one that went west a couple of weeks ago. I replaced this with the D-Link DIR 655, which is the first n spec network equipment here. It gives 300mbps over the LAN, once I’ve also upgraded some of the NICs in the other computers. Also the new router features intelligent QoS, and should work wonders with radio streaming and VOIP.
The connection suddenly started dropping out every three or four minutes, I know that Comcast isn’t all that, but I decided to investigate further.
Well not only was the Internet connection dropping, but the network itself was too. The darn router was rebooting itself that’s why!
I swapped it out for an older one, but that was any use, and I’d changed that for the newer one – a D-Link DI-624 for a similar reason.
The issue with many routers is that they run hot, and this degrades the components over time.
Anyway, after much researching, I settled on a D-Link DIR 655. So far I’m very pleased with it. Later on, I shall upgrade the wireless cards in some of the computers to take advantage of the higher speed offered (300mpbs).
