Police in Greater Manchester, in England,  have started a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death in an alleyway.

Officers were called to Wood Lane in Partington at about 0230 GMT after reports of a disturbance.

They found 23-year-old Donald Donlan in an alleyway behind Cheshire Road. He had been stabbed several times.

Mr Donlan, from Partington, was taken to Trafford General Hospital where he later died. Police appealed for witnesses to come forward.
