Estelle Getty, who was probably most famous for her role is the sharp-tongued Octogenarian Sophia Petrillo in the US Sitcom ‘The Golden Girls’ has died this morning at her Hollywood Boulevard Home. She was three days short of her 85th birthday, and had suffered from advanced dementia for some time.
Her movie credits included ‘Mannequin’ and ‘Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot’.
She was a New Yorker by birth, her parents having immigrated from Poland.

Recently I was reading comments from a young female rock artist, in which she condemns some of those in the media spotlight for setting a bad example by the way they behave, and she was basically saying that they give the younger generation of which they are a part, a bad name.
Many older people will say that the everything, including morals and behavior has gotten worse, but that is probably a complain that has gone on since Adam and Eve – the generation gap.
I consider myself pretty darn laid back and broad minded. I really don’t care what anyone does, but I do think that there is a time and a place for everything, and it’s not always in public. I’ve never been a celebrity chaser myself. I wish them, as I do everyone else, happiness and success, but I’m really not interested in the slightest in their personal lives, any more than I am interested in what the guy in the next street does.
It seems to be that in this age of media-driven over hype and sensationalism, it’s all seen to be cool to misbehave and act like a spoilt brat all the time. This sends out the wrong signals to some impressionable kids, that it’s cool to be a loud mouthed uncouth brat.
However, I like to think that most kids can see through all the BS, and aren’t impressed by it enough to try and emulate it.
