Friends, Charlestonians, countrymen, lend me your ;

Co. has long been one of our all around favorite brewers and following a terrific, recent visit from Vice Love (hopefully you made it to the meet & greet last weekend), we’ve decided to pay tribute to some of the best people and beers in the business.  Hailing from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, we have a truly ridiculous trio of Smuttynose rarities on the block this week and you can bet that each one of these Smutt- masterpieces can only be found at The Charleston Beer Exchange!  Check this out:

Tuesday (10/5)
You know how we do it every Tuesday at 5pm:  we tap an super-extra-special for growler fills!  This week we’ll be unleashing vintage 2004 Smuttynose Barleywine!  You read that right, this vintage is almost 7 years old (kegged on 1/27/04), matured in perfect conditions for a truly unique experience!  At 10% ABV and boasting a huge malty profile, this beer was meant for aging.  The beer currently scores a nearly perfect 97 points on Ratebeer.com and we can only imagine the wonder some time has done for it!

Rare Bomber Thursday (10/7)
Our next leg of the Smuttynose insanity will kick off at 5pm Thursday when release 22oz counter-pressure filled bomber style “growlers” of Smuttynose Short Batch #10 Belgian !  The Smuttynose Short Batch Series is a tiny production, draft only series of one-off .  The brewery uses this series to try new things and have fun!  This one is an 8.3% ABV Belgian-style that is as impressively delicious as it is scarce.  Don’t miss out!

Saturday (10/9)
To round out this Smutt-tacular week, we’ll be gravity tapping a cask (firkin) of a special edition Smuttynose Big A on Saturday at 2pm!  This real cask ale version of the always sublime Big A was specially dry-hopped with Simcoe, Santium,Centennial and Cascade hops along with a nice addition of French Oak!  This is the same dry-hopping blend that led this beer to take home the award for Best American Beer at the Great British Beer Festival!  Plan to be here promptly if you don’t want to miss this!

Remember, unlike our regular growler fills, real cask ale is highly perishable and must be consumed the same day so plan accordingly.  It is beer in its purest form, free of force carbonation and filtering allowing for a unique experience in texture, taste and aroma.

Glass Onion Sustainable Seafood Dinner with COAST Brewery (10/12)
Tuesday, October 12th, The Glass Onion will host a Sustainable Seafood Initiative dinner with COAST Brewery.  David Merritt and Jaime Tenny, brewer and owners of COAST, will be on hand to discuss their beers paired with a four course seafood menu.  Sure to be a wonderful evening!  Visit http://www.ilovetheglassonion.com for menu and additional information or call (843) 225-1717 to make your reservations!

03 Aug 10 CBX: Rare Beer Tuesday with Foothills Brewing!

News from the guys at The Charleston Beer Exchange

Charleston Beer ExchangeToday at 5pm, as we do every Tuesday, we are tapping a ridiculously amazing keg on our station! This week we’re fired up to have Foothills Bourbon Barrel-Aged People’s Porter! This is an absolutely delicious roasty & creamy porter to start and then it is aged in select, wet Kentucky to add beautiful notes of oak and vanilla. This extremely limited, draft only beer is rarely available so don’t miss out!

Upcoming Special Release 22oz “Growler” Program (aka “Rare Bomber Thursday”)
The Charleston Beer Exchange has decided to once again up the ante and launch a new program we are affectionately calling “Rare Bomber Thursday”! As some of you may recall, we have periodically released some our most limited quantity in 22oz bomber-style “” to ensure the beer love spreads to as many people as possible. We only do this when the beer meets a of being very limited in quantity and only available on draft. These limited small are counter-pressure filled, just the same as many do, to ensure maximum shelf life. “Rare Bomber Thursday” will bring this program to a regular weekly time slot of at 5pm. Yes, this is all in addition to our regular “ Tuesday” traditional 64oz growler program. At the start of each week, we will announce our “ Tuesday” and our “Rare Bomber Thursday” releases in the same email you currently receive as well as on and Twitter. Nothing else is changing, we’re just bringing you even more beer treasure on a regular basis!

A few answers to frequently asked questions:

- will still be limited, just less limited. From a small keg, we’ll get 25-30 bomber-style growlers instead 9-10 traditional 64oz growlers. Sometimes there may be a per , sometimes not. Depends on the beer.
-Bottles are counter-pressure filled to ensure a more stable shelf life but we still encourage you to keep them cold and drink them sooner than later.
-We take sanitization and filling technique extremely seriously and strive to provide you with the highest quality product possible. The brewers worked hard to make the beer and it is our job to see that you get to enjoy it unhindered by any poor treatment.
-This program will be in the trial stage for a while. We don’t promise it will last indefinitely the way “Rare Beer Tuesday” has turned out but we have high hopes!

Rare Bomber Thursday (8/5)
Still reading? Thanks! Our inaugural “Rare Bomber Thursday” growler release this Thursday at 5pm will be Ommegang Grand Cru Rouge! In our opinion, this is one of the greatest sour beers ever made. This authentic Flemish Red Ale was aged 18 months in French Oak at Brewery Bockor in Belgium. Sadly, Ommegang’s partnership with Bockor dissolved and this beer has not been made in nearly 2 years. For all intents and purposes, Rouge no longer exists….so come get it while you can!
