My Mother had the 78 of that 1950′s song by Guy Mitchell.
It always springs to mind when we have yet another power outage here. I think whenever a sparrow lands in the tree outside it kills the power, as SCEG’s distribution network is so unreliable.
I’ve never lived anywhere where the power goes out 2-3 times a month or more. Until I lived here I used to use power surge protectors, but never had to invest in a bunch of UPS’s for the computers, so my work isn’t lost.
This company charges enough for its power, and if you’re a tad late paying their outrageous bills, they’ll cut you off in a heartbeat, but there are no positive attributes I can find to describe them.
If they spend some of their income on modernizing the network – laying cables underground instead of on poles perhaps – instead of just maximizing profits, we’d get a more reliable supply.
A national grid would help of course too, but that’s not going to happen any time soon, and anyway, is a different issue from the lousy local supply.
Expensive, overpriced, lousy, unreliable – that about all that comes to mind, when I think of SCEG
