A change is as good as a rest, it has been often said.
So this morning, instead of the regular bacon and sausage fry-up, we decided to have something different.
Kippers are simply smoked herring, but they make a tasty alternative, particularly when you don’t have them very often.
To go with the kippers, we pan-fried some tomatoes, and some mushrooms.
We also thought we’d be healthier with the eggs this weekend, so instead of frying them, we got a pan of water boiling, dropped in the eggs, and poached them.
Along with a pot of freshly ground, brewed coffee, it was a most enjoyable breakfast.
Now if only, kippers didn’t have so many darn bones!
Here’s hoping y’all have a great weekend.

The smell of fresh vegetables cooking in the pot or the steamer.
That I have the doors and windows open, and am enjoying the cool fresh air wafter through the place.
It’s quiet and peaceful right now. All I can hear is the fountain outside, and the occasional quack of a duck.

I had a rummage around in the kitchen around lunchtime, trying to think of what to make for dinner. I’m a big fan of decent fresh food, and as I was going to be working most of the afternoon, I decided to do something that, once prepared, needs little attendance – a beef stew in the crockpot.
I diced up some chuck, also some potatoes, carrots, rutabaga and onion, and put it in the pot. On top of that went a half pint of beer, some chopped garlic, herbs, and some season salt.
On went the lid, and on went the switch, and that’s it, except for a cursory eye, and perhaps a stir later. Dinner is around 8pm.
