That was unquestionably the signature tune and for what Isaac Hayes will most be remembered. He died today in Memphis Tennessee at the age of 65. His family reported that he was receiving treatment for a number of medical issues at the time of his death.
The theme from the film of the same nameĀ was a number one hit in 1971. Isaac also won an Academy Award for the song and was nominated for another one for the score. The song and scoreĀ won him two Grammys as well.
He joined Stax records in 1964, and, along with David Porter, wrote hits such as Hold On, I’m Coming, and Soul Man, for legendary soul duo, Sam & Dave.
He was famous in the 80′s for playing Chef in South Park.
He was married four times, and had twelve children.
