This afternoon was the turn of the Charleston Coffee Crew’s Monthly Meetup.
It was held at Kudu, which is situated on Vanderhorst Street, just off King Street in Downtown Charleston. It’s the road just by the Lutheran Church with the huge steeple, that I mentioned just yesterday – the one that burnt down in 1965.
I had never been to Kudu before and I’d heard much about it.
The idea of the Meetups is to meet fellow coffee lovers, and enjoy good coffee, and good conversation.
I have to say that, in my opinion, this meetup, excelled on both counts.
I got to meet some new people (to me at least), and the coffee was the best I’ve had anywhere in Charleston. Period.
Kudu specializes in African coffees. I tried the house blend, and also the Cameroon Boyo. Both very good, as was the Jamaican Beef Patties. They were a little spicey, which I like, but is not to everyone’s taste of course.
There are also a number of other savory and sweet items to try at very reasonable prices. A large mug of coffee, and it came in a real mug, which impressed me, was $2.50, and refills are only 50c.
We ended up staying for 3 hours!
After that we were all a little hungry, so we headed up King Street to Basils, which was only three blocks away and walking distance.
There we had some excellent Thai food, to round off a wonderfully interesting and relaxing afternoon.
