I’ve recently discovered Twitter. I think it’s great. Two reasons.

1. It’s fun. Yes, it’s good for a little time out to read all the messages and participate too. It’s like IM, but also to your cellphone. Now I guess this really is only good if you’ve got an unlimited text package on your cellphone account, or it’s soon going to rack up a huge huge bill!

2. It’s useful. I’ve got BBC World Service News set up, and also CricTimes, so I can get the latest Cricket Scores. I also had Boatrace on April 7th, and I got a blow-by-blow account of the Annual Oxford vs Cambridge duel on the River Thames in London. Was it up to the minute? I don’t know exactly how delayed it was, but as it was the only live channel open to me here, it didn’t really matter if it was a few minutes behind.

To set up a twitter account – it’s free – simply go to twitter.com. If you don’t want to use your cellphone, you don’t have to, you can use it from the web. Also check out Twittervision. Dave Troy has superimposed Twitter onto Google Maps, so you can see where the Tweets are coming from.
